Are you considering homeschooling for the first time?
Homeschooling can be a wonderful path for many families, but it can also be overwhelming. I know firsthand the feelings of excitement and worry that come with this decision, and I’d love to help guide you on this journey.
Consultations are available in 30-minute or 60-minute sessions. We can discuss curriculum options, Florida requirements, homeschool methods and theories, schedules, and much more.
Homeschool Evaluations
Once you begin homeschooling, you will need to have an evaluation completed annually by a certified Florida teacher.
- Evaluations can be done in-person or virtually
During the evaluation, I will:
- Review Student’s portfolio of work
- Speak with Student about their favorite subjects, topics, field trips, etc.
- Ask Student to share what they believe their strengths and challenge areas are
- Help Student set goals for next school year
- Present Student with a certificate of completion
- Discuss with Parent/Guardian the Student’s areas of strength and challenges I observe within the portfolio, as well as what the Student has shared
- Answer any questions the Parent/Guardian may have about homeschool moving forward, and provide resources if applicable
Sessions are typically 45 minutes for one student.
Information about Homeschool Evaluations – from the Florida Department of Education
Establishing a Home Education Program Florida’s home education law does not require a particular educational background for parents or standard curricula for students; however, parents must maintain a portfolio of records and materials showing student work and make it available to the school district if requested in writing. Students in home education programs must annually undergo one of five academic evaluation options and submit the results to the district school superintendent. Parents register their home education program with the school district, providing the name, address, and birth date of each student participating. Home education students may participate in dual enrollment and may be eligible for Florida Bright Futures Scholarships.

My daughter Averie had Mrs. Wylie as a teacher for 5th grade. In the classroom she set up the most wonderful interactive units for the students including doctor week and space week. It felt like the Magic School Bus in the classroom. The students had doctor name badges and space helmets along with surgery tables and star projectors. We’ve never had a teacher immerse my daughter in such a neat way before. When the time came that Averie needed math tutoring, Darcy was amazing. She was engaging and flexible. She even gave us insight and advice on how to homeschool and keep Averie on pace with her grade level. We are so grateful for her help and highly recommend Darcy for any tutoring, teaching, or homeschool needs.

I highly recommend Darcy with Sunshine Education & Wellness. My daughter transitioned into homeschool half way through 6th grade. Darcy made this transition stress-free for our daughter and us parents. She created a daily schedule and lesson plans. Darcy also guided us as parents on what we needed to do. Darcy came to our home once a week to help our daughter with her school work and ensured she had a successful end of the school year. She has gone out of her way to create new lesson plans based on our daughter’s interest for this upcoming school year. We look forward to this upcoming homeschool year working with Darcy.

Mrs. Wylie taught my son during 4th and 5th grade, which were very 2
tumultuous years, as 4th grade, was his first year at a new school, as well
as the beginning of Covid. While there was no in person school, Mrs. Wylie
communicated daily, assisted not only my son virtually, but me as a parent,
as this was the beginning of a very challenging school year dealing with
Covid and trying to adjust as a parent and a student. Mrs. Wylie was
instrumental in these 2 years she taught grade school for my son. Mrs. Wylie
continued to stay in our lives after 5th grade, by offering summer tutoring
sessions as my son was entering middle school, which as we know is a
challenging time for kiddos. Mrs. Wylie came during the summer to tutor my
son preparing him for middle school! Champ looked forward to tutoring as
well! He could not wait until Mrs. Wylie came to tutor, she made it fun and
engaging for the kids, where he wanted to learn. It did not end there… Mrs.
Wylie continued to always be there if I needed tutoring for my son, while in
middle school. We ultimately had to shift from in person school to online
school for the beginning of 7th grade, and currently that is our current
situation as we are on a waiting list for the school of choice for 7th
grade. The online school for a 7th grader can be very intimidating, and as
a working parent, very stressful…very stressful. I contacted Mrs. Wylie,
she understood my concerns without hesitation and came up with a plan for us
to alleviate the stress, while ensuring Champ succeeds with his online
school. She created a calendar and plan of action not just for Champ, but
for myself as well! So I can stay on task, and do what I need to do in my
daily work and home life, and still be able to assist Champ with his online
studies. She created an organized system for us and it has alleviated
stress, and has kept us on task and SUCCEEDING AND EXCELLING! She has
created a plan of virtual teaching times where she meets with us virtually
certain days and hours and assists not only my son but myself with questions
on his daily lessons, she helps with projects that are due for school, she
tutors all areas in which he needs help, and even areas where he does not
need help…She is encouraging, and motivating and my son loves her! We all
love her! She has been an absolute life saver because she is not only
helping us navigate this online world of school but assisting us with our
daily life to ensure success for the entire family!
